What Is Islam?
Peace through Submission
Islam is the latest expression, the reaffirmation of the timeless Monotheistic tradition that stretches back to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all). In essence, Islam is the restoration and completion of the same monotheistic path that has guided humanity to a righteous, God-centered life since the earliest beginnings.
"He has ordained for you ˹believers˺ the Way which He decreed for Noah, and what We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ and what We decreed for Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, ˹commanding:˺ “Uphold the faith, and make no divisions in it"
— Quran, 42:13The very word 'Islam' carries the dual meaning of 'submission' and 'peace,' reflecting the belief that true inner tranquility arises only when the human heart aligns itself with the Divine will. The Qur’an is regarded as the final revelation, and the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) is the final messenger. His teachings provide a practical model for ethical living.
At its heart, Islam emphasizes:
- One God Foundation of belief
- Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage as pathways to Spiritual discipline, Social justice, Self-control and Unity
- Human responsibility and moral accountability
- A sense of purpose that human life has meaning, direction, and a higher moral calling
For over 1,400 years, Islam has transcended borders to become a global civilization. It is united not by a single culture, but by a common commitment to Divine Worship, Social Equity, and the Inherent Dignity of all human life.
